Lynne and Brian Buchhalter - Nov 08
Lynne and Brian Buchhalter and thirteen-year-old daughter Eve live in Medway, MA. Lynne grew up in Haverhill and attended Temple Emanu-El. She received her undergraduate degree in math, science and teaching from UMass/Amherst, and completed graduate courses for a degree as a teacher of mathematics. Brian, also a Massachusetts native, grew up in Waban, MA, attended private schools in Lennox, MA, and Washington, CT, received his undergraduate degree from Northeastern University and graduate degree from Boston College. The Buchhalters are recently, and happily, retired - Lynne, from many years of teaching math at Wellesley Middle School and Brian, from a career as an IT consultant. In addition to sharing activities with Eve, they now have the time to pursue other interests; Lynne includes reading, book-club participation and hand crafts among her hobbies. She has also joined Sisterhood and is looking forward to assisting with the Passover candy sale. Brian has been busy with a list of home improvements, at which Lynne says he is very skilled. The Buchhalters decided to join a congregation when Eve was about six, in order to enroll her in religious school. According to Lynne, they phoned several temples in the area, but we were the only congregation to return her call! Lynne says she has always associated that welcoming feeling with the temple, recalling Eve’s wonderful first year in religious school with Lorraine Anderson as her teacher. She noted that some of her most difficult times were eased by the attention offered to her and her family - citing in particular former rabbi, Barbara Symons’ visits to Brian during a hospitalization and the outpouring of support from Rabbi Symons, former cantorial soloist Rachel Reef- Simpson and members of the congregation when she was grieving the loss of her mother.
